“We're home already mommy, please can we stay?”

Go visit Sky City they asked me, and let us know what you think. Honestly I did not know what to expect, it looked so far away on Google maps. Alberton South? Sho that’s way out. I grabbed my 8 year old daughter for company, hopped into the car and off we went.

We were now in the hands of “that lady talking to us in the car”.

“From Johannesburg take the M1 Vereeniging road past Gold Reef City and South Gate, at the next traffic light turn left onto Swartkoppies road, carry on straight and at the next traffic light at Mall of The South turn right onto Klipriver drive. Travel South for 9 minutes and turn right onto the R59 freeway. Turn left at the next off ramp”.

Next thing I know we were at the entrance to Sky City. “You have reached your destination”. That took only 26 minutes, about the same time as my daily commute from my family home in Protea Glen.

“Look!”, my daughter yelled, “they have play parks”. I just wanted to go look at the show houses, but no, we had to stop. She bolted out of the car, ran a few meters and stopped dead in her tracks, unable to decide where to go to play first.

Before us were play parks with jungle gyms, balance beams, tries and giant boulders, dotted along winding jogging trails, every kid’s fantasy. She could not contain herself running from one to the next. “Mom!, outdoor gym equipment for you too”.

We explored the area further, sport fields, soccer fields, community facilities, and oh, the school. Royal Private School, Sky City. They offer classes for learners from Grade RRR (4 years old) to Grade 12 and have 64 classrooms with projectors and CCTV cameras as well as 2 computer centres and 3 science labs. The school offers sports such as athletics, soccer and netball and cultural activities include an eisteddfod, concerts, choir and fun days. The pre school has 4 classes and a dedicated and well equipped play area.

We took a drive around the neighborhood and on our way out we stopped at the mall for some last minute groceries at Shoprite and a bite to eat. Mmm what will we get, Steers, Fish and Chips, Debonairs Pizza or Village Chicken? Other shops at Sky City mall include Ackermans, PEP, Standard Bank, Capitec, Scott’s Corner Pharmacy,Tekkie Town, Liquor Shop, Mica and Cashbuild.

“Time to go home” I told my daughter as we finished up our pizza. “But we are home already mommy, please can we stay?” she replied.

I must be honest, I did want to stay, and their prices looked affordable. Homes here start from R573 000 for a two bedroom one bathroom option, R644 000 for a 3 bedroom home and only R870 000 for a large 4 bedroom family home with 2 bathrooms and a separate guest toilet. All houses are free standing with private gardens and are full title meaning you can extend in future. The yards are all fenced and walled and comes standard with a vehicle gate, solar geysers and roof insulation, all helping you cut your electricity costs.

Sky City is developed by Cosmopolitan projects and they market it as “A world-class mega development that offers a quality lifestyle”

I couldn't agree more.
